I've recently done a swap on my 300 and added the offy dp with EFI exhaust manifolds and a 600 elder ever once and awhile i get a sputter on acceleration. I don't know if its the ignition box or not but i have an extra just in case it goes out on me. Do you think i need the water heater for the manifold or is it just a tuning issue. On another note i don't have much pull when i kick in the 4 barrel in 4th gear i believe im running the t-18 with 4.10 gears but in 4th gear im running 55 at 2k but i should have some more pull id think.
If driveability is equal to performance, yes. Without the hot-spot in the intake manifold the gas tends to puddle on the floor of the manifold and doesn't stay atomized which results in poor performance. This cannot be adjusted out with carburetor tweaks.
Lack of heat to the intake manifold is probably the #1 cause of driveability issues with these modifications. And you are experiencing a driveability issue. Fix the lack of heat to the manifold and go from there.
try heat first.... its a simple and cheap option and will help a ton.... its winter right?
late fords have the plate you need and can be found on ebay ect... I have links in my cig to my build and more info also a few have posted up how to do it from the bottom of the offy as well as a bolt on prefab thats sold...
You need something like in the photo. The metal and fittings will cost you about $30, and then you have to have it welded up. It bolts to the bottom of the Offy. Or, you can buy the type that sits between carb and Offy, but I've heard the first type works better. The second type came on some Ford Galaxies from the sixties. You can find them sometimes on ebay.
The heated spacer does more for preventing icing and little for heating the manifold. I've done it either way and both ways and found the manifold heat works for me over the heated spacer. My carb sits on the manifold without a spacer and I have not had any icing problems even though conditions around here are prime for icing much of the year. Without the manifold heat one usually gets stumbling, bogging, farting, and falling down in general.
