I have a 75mm BBK throttle body, K&N air intake, Dual exhaust on my 2001 Ford F150. I'm wondering if there is anything else I need to install/replace like "Throttle Position Sensor" or "Mass Air Flow Sensor" etc. I'm just wondering how can I be sure I'm getting the proper air to fuel mixture running the stock computer program. The throttle response seems a little slower and gas mileage seems to have dropped some. Do I need to consider getting my computer re-programmed or maybe investing in a performance chip? Any information would be very helpful to gain my maximum performance.
I havn't a clue what size those newer model engines come with for throttle bodies, but 75mm sounds very large for a stock engine??? However, I thought I heard a couple of my friends talking about something near that size on thier 5.4's...This could very easily be the cause of your poor throttle response. The incomming air needs more velocity than airflow for the low end torque. Most of the time, a T-body upgrade doesn't give to much improvement, and may even take away, unless you are running a high horsepower setup. Also, there is no reason you would need to have a custom chip burned for your setup. The MAF sensor can make up for any changes that have occured flawlessly under your circumstances.
the only other thing i would do for right now is to advance your timing a little. On 87 octane you should be able to go up 4 degrees or so with no knock. This will help your low end torque and your gas mileage. And it costs nothing!
and letting it idle for a few mins helped the response. The problem was only at WOT. The delay between the gas peddle hitting the floor and the truck responding was about 2.5 seconds. It's now right around 1 second which is about what I would expect on these newer engines.
I just ordered a Diablo chip, and ordering BBK pulleys and I think I'm done for a while.
gamehunter: If I recall, the stock TB is 48mm on thse trucks. When I ordered it, I found the 75 for the same price as some smaller ones so I just went with the larger one.
fast: you said adjust the timing up 4 degees. Very interesting because I did notice a slight drop in low end. With the chip I ordered and running 93 octane would you still suggest messing with the timming? Shouldn't the chip take care of things like this for me?
