Getting another ex?
Been checking on Craigslist looking at what kinda X's are for sale. Found a 00' X with "A excellent engine and motor" but the trans needs to be rebuilt/replaced. The guy is only asking $1500 for it so I'm wondering how much would a new trans cost and is it worth it?

A bullet-proof tranny from BTS will run you about $4,300.

Last I read, Brian had raised his price closer to 5k. I heard John (John Wood Automotive) raised his price too, due to higher prices for parts.
Either one will be the last trans you buy.

$1500 sounds fishy to me. Even without a transmission and and engine in excellent condition I cant see why $1500. I don't wanna scare you but I would seriously run a check on the vin and take someone with a good understanding of these trucks if your planning on using this as a daily driver anytime soon.. You might get get lucky too and the engine is as good as they say. With a little bit of leg work you might find a wrecked f250 or wrecked ex and jump on the tranny for a deal. Ask for more pictures and the vin number and let some of these pros take a look... You wanna know what edition and motor it has too. They left very little description on the ad.. You have to move fast too. For that price im sure he's getting a few calls. Keep us posted..

Jay. Its been on their for quite some time so obviously its not a hot ticket item right now. If i did get it though it wouldn't be my daily driver because I have another 4x4 excursion 2 years newer that is my daily driver. I would turn the 2wd into a project IF i did get it.

I'd go see it and if it is a straight body with a running engine and nothing blatantly wrong with it, offer $800 cash in hand and walk away if the guy says no. Could be a great project and if all it is going to be is a spare get some quotes on a rebuilt 4r100 transmission or see if you can find a low mileage used one to swap in.
