Don't know where to start

Couldn't find where to post a request for new member/owner questions. I am going from the SUV world to the Truck world soon and need a little reassurance. The last time I owned a pick up was about 1992, an old Dodge called "Big Bert" (Yeah Dodge but hey it was all but free)
Last new truck was a 79 F150, straight 6, 3 on the tree, 2wd.

Anyways, I know its going to be an F150 4x4, year 00-03. God them things are expensive! 8-10 grand for a 12 year old truck! An 05 with 120,000 miles on it for 16 thousand!
The best deal I have seen is a 2000, F150 4x4, XLT.ext cab with the little back seat and suicide doors, 5.4V8, 17 inch aluminum wheels about 40% tire tread remaining, looks like about $800 for 4 tires mounted
The guys asking $8,995, trucks pretty clean, has the typical(from what I've seen) rust at the very bottom of both front doors on the inside(how long before it works clean through, and can it be stopped?
Here in PA, every one I've seen has rust and this one has the least, for an 00. I really like the truck and may make the guy an offer, its a private seller. The dealers got the market wrapped up around here and have a pretty hefty mark up going on , but they gotta eat to.

I know its going to be bad MPG, but how bad? I'll be driving the wife's 06 Honda Accord 4 banger to work each day, the truck will be for the wife to run errands, for me to do my home work like a run to the Depot or Lowes, pulling the Dirtbikes/ATV to the mountains for trail riding, and of course, the only practical way to get out in the occasional PA winter event. I may get a plow also, for myself only. I am thinking about selling my Kubota tractor that I only seem to really use anymore is to plow our 1200 foot drive way 3 or 4 times a year, (last year was worse) Thats a lot of money sitting around waiting for snow.
Well, what about these trucks? The 5.4 blows plugs through the front fenders? Gets the worst MPG for its class on planet earth?
Does the truck make it all worth it? A lotta people say its the wrong choice for a second vehicle, especially when gas will only go up.
Like I said in the beginning of this post, I need some reassurance, figured what better place than the choir, where's that preacher man telling me God wants me to have this truck!

Seems like your not really satisfied with what you're seeing...body condition wise.
as far as the f150...its a nice truck overall....just write down a list of "needs" and "wants" in a truck. My needs and your needs will differ widely. Either keep the kabota and get 2 wd and gain some MPGs...maybe get a garden tiller and till up gardens for side line income & justify it more??

if you gonna snow plow with a truck you, might be happier with f250...with a beefier front end, the f150 isn't really meant for snow plowing. but if you just use it for yourself, I'm sure that you'd get by fine. but thats the kinda thing that balloons into the next 5 neighbors, if ya know what I mean. & if you want to tow something a bit more you got the horse to do it with.

If you don't really need this ,like yesterday, be patient! something will turn up that trips your trigger. scan Craigs list for your area or other local media.

The biggest thing whatever you decide...watch for prior history of maintenance...if they can't produce it/prove it, walk away. there is way too many of them out there. Just my 2cents worth
