White smoke once in a blue moon!

Hey guys, I have a 2008 F350 diesel and once in a while it barks out a big white cloud! I just had it in the shop where they replaced the fuel pump, they had to lift the cab off! unreal! but they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They didn't tighten the clamp up on the bottom turbo hose either so when I got out on the highway and put some pressure to it it popped off! Nice laying on my back in the snow/salt putting it back on! If you have any ideas let me know. Maybe it is just a common thing?

White smoke can be from an overfuel condition. Perhaps you have an injector sicking open occasionally? Try a fuel additive with lubricity, see if it doesn't help.

white smoke could also mean that you have some moisture build up in your cac or it could also be EGR cooler related.

Based upon what you are saying I don't think it is anything to be concerned with right now.

As always watch all your fluid levels and as long as everything stays where it should I would not worry about it.

Are you sure your truck is not going into the cleaning exhaust filter mode?

Good info guys! I will add some additive and watch the fluids for sure, I am glad it isn"t something really big ! It is not in the cleaning filter mode, but it sure goes into that mode quite often. Especially when pulling my trailer. It never went into that mode very often before but the truck had a servicing done a while back and they changed the computer at the shop and now it does it a lot!

Can you track how often for the regens..everyone is different but loaded heavy I am about 130 miles apart give or take.

Empty usually over 500 miles apart.

Very little city stop and go driving for me.

Hey Brad, welcome. I think most folks on here would agree that using an additive with every tank of fuel is a good idea. As I understand it the ULSD will not sufficiently lubricate the moving parts of the fuel system and in the long term that will cause problems. Think about it. You have the EPA, ford, the fuel companys and the engine builder involved. lots of chanches for it to be screwed up. I use diesel Klean from walmart, others use the ford product and I think there are other choices.

I've been using the ford cetane boost and it is supposed to treat 125 gallons per 20 oz.bottle at 7-8$ a bottle I get 4 tanks a bottle ,are people just dumping the whole bottle in 1 tk. or following the recommended mixture?

No, I pour mine in to 20 oz bottles and add 1 bottle per tankful. 60 gal tank, normally pump around 50 gals. It's a little extra but I figure DK is cheap, fuel systems for this truck are not.
