Catalytic Converter
I have a 96 Ranger 2.3L 5-speed with 83K miles. I hear an exhaust leak that seems to be coming from the CAT. I also have a constant check engine light. I ahve the OBDII system, shich is proving to be a pain in the ^%#. The muffler shops all say the there is no aftermarket CAT available for these trucks and that it's a dealer special order only. There are only about a million of these Ford OBDII trucks, how can that be a dealer special order? The dealer wants $560 plus labor for a CAT! I live in California so the truck HAS TO PASS SMOG TEST, cutting it off is not an option. Has anyone else had to do a CAT for one of these trucks and did it really cost over $500. I love my truck, but the OBDII stinks.

I buy CarSound high flow cats for about $65-70.
You think $500 is bad, try $1800 for two cats for a Lexus LS400! Can't get them anyplace else b/c they bolt in.
OBD II is great, so much easier to trouble shoot a car and easy to pass the sniffer in Texas
