nerf bars
I'm in the final stages of repairs to the exterior of my 91' EB. I installed full running boards on the truck the week after I bought it back in 91. Besides being outdated, they will not fit with the new fender flares. I want to go with nerf bars but I'm not quite sure what brand, or black,chrome or stainless, or even where to buy from. I do live in the Chicago area so salt is a problem. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

There are so many manufacturers. You should check out jegs.com or summitracing.com just to name a few. I have only run one set of chrome nerfs in my life. They were made my MAAP (Mid America Automotive Products). They kept their finish for a long time, and held up to the abuse. You should also look at smittybilt, steel horse, rhino. If you do a search for nerf bars on any search engine, you should get quite a few sites that sell them.

Just depends on your personal taste. Don't go with cheapies though...you get hwat you pay for and the cheap ones will begin to rust or tarnish very rapidly no matter which finish you have in them. The nerf bars on my '92 are chrome Westin's. They have the black vynil steps that have been "flattened" so you don't have to step up on the rounded edge of the bar. Pics in my gallery.

I would definitely stay away from chrome. I had chrome Smitybilt front and rear tube bumpers and they began to rust after about 6 months of coastal weather and salt. I also had smitybilt stainless nerf bars and after almost 2 years they were still in great shape. No rust and they were still nice and shiny.

Ditto on the Westin's. Of all the chrome components on the truck, they show NO signs of deterioration. The rear step bumper and the Westin bars were installed at the exact same time two years ago and the OEM Ford bumper is showing more deterioration than the nerf bars.
