Just installed a stock 460 carb. engine,in a early model 40s truck. And with your help maybe I can decide which distributor to use.
I want to go electronic rather then points. But ford has to diffrent ones for the 460. Which is better ? The one that has the ignition module attached to it or the one that has the module separate from the distributor. Anyone know the diffrence in them. I was told the one with the seperate module is better because it has a vacuum advance. but im not sure. And if I use the other one with the module attached,it will be a lot simpler to hook up the wireing. I dont have one at all at this time. But there not hard to find. Thanks !!
What you want to use is the Duraspark II distributor and control module, not the later computer controlled distributor [the one with the module attached to the distributor] The Duraspark is easy to hook up very reliable and trouble free. Do a search on wiring it up and you should find some scematics on how to wire it up, that is if you do not have this info already. Eric
Like the merc man said, go for the durasparkII. The TFI ignition you are reffering to is for computed timing. You can hook it up, and your engine will fire up and run, but it is the computer that gives it it's advance so you will just sit at base timing all the time. The duraspark system is very simple, and aside for three wires, is a plug in operation.
