Does any one out there have M-H production numbers? Especially COE numbers. I've located on the net or known about 4 pre-47 M-H COEs...there have to more out there. Does anyone have any idea how many are around?
You won't find any M-H production numbers for that era. As the story goes, M-H had an "office fire" that destroyed all their production records. Whether it was that, or a fire in the office's burn barrel isn't known.
M-H would have assigned a unique model designation to the COE conversions of the era, but I doubt there'd have been a lot of differences between them and the standard cab models. The front axle and transfer case would have been shared by each model, but I guess there might be linkage and other small components that would have been unique to the COEs.
I can think of only three other COE M-Hs of your era that have appeared here. One is the '42-'47 Josh mentioned above that he's watching. Maybe he'll post a picture of it again. I can't find it right at the moment. Another is fully restored in a museum in Brooks, OR, and the third is one in WI that was/is for sale. I've seen it but it's in pieces and has been hurt pretty badly. Its cab sits on another truck's frame, while the M-H chassis to the truck sits near by. I'll post pics of these two.
I'd suggest that you get in contact with Mark Mossell and have him include your truck in his M-H Registry. That will help you connect with others who have similar trucks. Below too is a link to Mark's Hub Garage web page.
I got the old girl running today, so far without going thru the original carb. So tonight I'm up late rebuilding the carburetor so hopefully she'll humm and purr by herself without spraying starter fluid down the carb to keep her going.
That is good news. Did it take much work to get it running?
Are you going to take it to the All Ford Picnic in Champoeg and the truck show in Brooks? My truck is always the only flathead COE at these shows. It would be nice to have company for it.

New set of points, bead blasted all the contacts in the ignition system, few days of some Marvels Mystery soaking in all the spark plug holes and the old girl fired right up.
After all that time I wouldn't use the gas tank either until I'd overhauled it. The gas tank is unique to the COE body style. So fixing up the old tank is about the only option. Nobody makes a reproduction tank that I've seen.
I used a POR-15 kit to clean, etch, and coat the inside of my tank. I cleaned the outside down to bare metal and found that the bottom was nearly rusted through from the outside in a couple of spots. #%$@! mouse nests had corroded it. Luckily I'd caught it in time. After building up the corroded section with JB Weld, I repainted it, and installed the tank with a new sender.
I'll look up the contact info for the guy that had an extra hood and send you a private mail when I find it. He's just down I-5 in Springfield.
For the last few years I've been storing cars at my shop and in a hangar at the airport. Just found out I'm loosing the hangar space. This truck was planned on being "back burner" for a few years while other things got done, so I'm thinking about selling it and/or a couple other vehicles. Hate to see a rare beast like this go, but its been stored indoors for so long and has remarkably little rust....I'd just hate to see it set outside in the elements.
