A nice potato or pasta salad Dave would be fantastic.

We'll need some more food items, desert, ya know, potluck things.

Tables, chairs if ya wanna sit for a spell.

Kids may want to build a sand castle (I know this kid will...).

I can bring three canvas camping chairs in case we have more people than places to sit.

Just read this post Jay:
Here's a map that shows where the posts are.

On a busy weekend IMO, Post 2 is a zoo. I'd recommend going down to Post 4 for a bit more breathing room. There a restroom near Post 4 too. Those with 2wd, stay on the hard sand near the shore and be sure to air down if you wander into the soft sand. A day pass will allow you to get stuck anywhere in the park.

Map of the SVRA

Oceano Dunes SVRA quote from that site:
If your vehicle becomes stuck, you might try the following:
  • Drop your tire pressure, but don't go below 15 lbs PSI.
  • Dig out the sand from around your tires.
  • Recruit some friends from FTE and — keeping the front wheels straight — push and drive your vehicle either forward or backward. Don't allow your wheels to spin, this will dig you in deeper.
  • Beach towing is available if needed.
  • Before towing, take pics with your friends and post here!

Is there an entry fee to this place? Need to add that to the other expenses (gas) beforehand so I don't get stuck financially.

How much are overnight passes? Were planning on heading down friday night, sleeping saturday morning and night and leaving sunday morning. Do they lock the gates at night?

I think an overnight pass is either 8 or 10 bucks. And no, they do not lock the gates at night.

Agreed. When I camp there I actually camp off beach between posts 5 & 6. It's quieter down there and is easier to find more open space. Friday morning the beach itself will already be crowded and "roped off", but if you go just behind the first line of beach campers (about 20 yards off the surfline) it's usually more open.
