I have posted on this before with no avail. If anyone will help i would appreciate it, i have a 94 ranger 2.3 with the dual coil packs, i bought it with the second coil pack not firing( since it is designed to start on one pack and then the other kicks in, this never happened) i replaced the EDIS/ICM and it would not start at all, put the old back in and would not start, have replaced a few wires on the connectors for the edis because of corrosion and check relays and fuses, still nothing. it cranks and cranks just no fire, it has no spark.
I had the same issue with a 92 2.3. The replacement ICM from FLAPS turned out to be sporatic. Put the orginal back on a no dice. It was the 2nd new ICM that did the trick (that and shaking the wiring harness looking for a short). The store swapped out the ICM under warentey.
Another option is that with the old wiring having been twisted/moved, maybe a wire broke in the harness. So grab the harness and give it a few shakes and jostles then retry to start it.
And don't forget the heat conductor paste between the ICM and manifold. Good luck
Thank you. I have tried wiggling every wire I can get my hands on lol.
and as far as the ICM I haven't bought new because of the price, I have switched it out with 2 from the bone yard, the one that is in it now had virtually no corrosion on it and look somewhat new. I do have the special silicone between it and the manifold. And all 3 bolts tightly down.
Until something pops out I'm just going to keep switching out the wire ends that look corroded.
