This has always been a question for us but idle time is more than just in park; has to be.
There is no way on this great earth that I've idled in [P] as much as my truck reports.
My guess is any time the wheels aren't moving but there could be more to it than that.
Such as, does it count while slowly moving (at idle) because of a wreck or pulling a float in a parade? idk...
Definitely a guess but I think anytime running and not moving.... Don't think being in park has anything to do with it... Correct me if I'm wrong
Yes, after seeing what peoples responses are, I would be surprised if idle were based upon gear selector being only in park. I know on my Subaru, the CPU is aware of throttle angle, so throttle angle, or one of the other aspects to determine idle like throttle angle = 0 and RPM within a certain range is probably the determiner of idle accumulation.
Whatever the case, it does not appear that there is a clear answer verified yet.
I will have to look at my numbers again to get exact numbers, but I believe I am around 300 some engine hours and 44 idle hours. Mileage is about 13,200.
I would be curious if the high idle mod kicks the engine out of racking up idle time?? Anyone want to let their truck idle for a few hours each way to try?
I am not sure how the idle hours are accumulated. I never have this truck sitting and idling anywhere. Obviously I am doing some type of condition to have the computer log idle.
Also, does anyone know whether the total hours are cumulative and include the idle hours in the summary?
