Question Carburetor

I have an 84 302 that I just did a total rebuild on, the question I have is, how do you tell if your carb is bad? I have a Carter AFB on it and after getting it back in the truck and wired up yesterday, it fired right up and ran good. I shut it off and started it back 2 or 3 more times, started and ran good. Well I went down the road and came back about 3 hours later and won't start, don't that suck! It has a Mallory Unilite and a Promaster coil on it, but I am pretty sure that it is firing but not getting any fuel to the cylinders. I pulled two different plugs and couldn't smell any gas, and it is in time. The engine is currently in an 85 F150. You can also stand beside it and hold the key over and within about 15 or 20 seconds you can start to smell gas without touching the pedel.

Thanks Alan

Flooded? Or your float is out of adjustment.... When you rebuilt the engine did you rebuild the carb? Also take off the fuel line and get a coffe can or a small bucket and stick the hose in it and have somone turn it over to make sure gas is going to your carb... you can usaly look in the carb from above it and see if you are geting gas... turn it over for about 5 seconds and then jump under the hood, with the the neg. battery cable disconnected take off your air cleaner and look down the carb, push on the throttle with your thumb and see if gas sprays, the gas should spray near the boosters, sounds like you might have a pluged jet or like I said your float is way out of wack.... Definitly sounds like a Carb problem, easy fix...
