After not being run for 8-10 years and sitting for the most part the last 15-16 years the 292 is running very well. We rebuilt the carb., patched exhaust back together and changed all fluids. It is running smooth and is not smoking and the oil pressure at idle is 45-50 hot or cold. Have not found any leaks yet, hopefully that stays that way.
20 years ago I did have card for the motor that stated it was remanufacterd by Ford Motor Company it said it was 292 that had been bored .30 over etc.
Thanks to some help here I found the block # and found out the year a 62 car or 62-64 truck block.
This is in 55 F-100
My question is there any thing I should do to the motor before I start to change a few things and if anybody here as done them what I should expect out of the changes?
Do something to get rid of points?
The ram horn manifolds?
A 4-barrel intake with carb?
Thanks for any feedback.
I would start with getting "rid of the points". Makes a big difference in starting and running and it is compatible with the other modifications that you mentioned.
The are many options available, Pertronix, Crane, MSD, etc. Or convert your existing distributor to a Ford Duraspark system. MSD has a complete distributor.
Personally I am running a Pertronix in place of the points to trigger a MSD 6A Control Box.
