I don't know if they serve me any good at all, but I like the looks of them. So I guess it is how it looks as to what you like.

Yeah I agree, I think it's an appearance thing. I'm not aware of them serving any real purpose.

As a matter of fact, I had a bulb go out...I went to my local auto parts place they looked up my truck and said 'your truck doesn't come with factory cab lights'. I went outside, took the cover off. pulled the bulb out, walked back in, found the replacement bulb, bought it and took it outside and installed it. Drove off and left with the two guys watching me out the window the whole time...they never said a word when I went back in found the bulb and paid for it.

I think they make the truck look better especially since I have the towing mirrors with the lights on them.

I think you should do what you want to do. After all, it's your truck. My truck didn't come with them either, so I installed them myself. There are several good threads here that you can learn from if you search the forums. Good luck.

When I bought my truck I purchased the option and I like them. The big thing for me is that they increase visibility in the snow....the lights are up aways beyond the swirling snow in the road.

if its factory then yes. i would NEVER drill ten holes in my roof and have water leak in under that crappy foam seal ford uses and rot my entire roof off my truck. But my F350 had them from the factory so... plus i like the look, i think trucks look plain without them.

they are a legal requirement for wide trucks...basically Dually trucks are required to have them. I am pushing the limit with my truck because of width. My tires stick out 2" on either side, and the flares make it obvious

Otherwise, they are just for looks. I love mine. They are easy to install if you have a clue mechanically. I would recommend a novice avoid, or pay someone to install

since the factory trucks are 79.8" wide IIRC, and cab lights are required on anything over 80", then you technically dont need them on a SRW truck. but they sure look good.
as tylus mentioned, if you have fender flares, then you may be over 80" wide depending on the definition of where they measure.

I looking at putting them on my truck. You just have to make sure you seal them really really good. wiring is very easy.
It is just a looks thing. on larger trucks they are required, they are known as I.D. lights, helps to identify oncoming trucks as LARGE/WIDE trucks.

I understand your concern, but I have never had an issue with mine leaking after I installed them.

10 holes might cause a leak... 15 won't though.

Go for it! Just measure and remeasure before you drill. I've done a few sets and have never had a leaking problem.

Again just make sure you place them where you like them and measure 3 or 4 times if needed.

Also when you connect to your wiring besure to get the correct one. Once by mistake connected to the interior lights and they would dim with the dimmer switch.

One of the FTE members that left our group allowed me to copy his instructions on how to do this job.

If you're interested, here's the procedure:

When you install the lights do NOT use a hole saw. Spend the $30 to get a 1/2" slug buster to knock out the holes.

You can order the wiring harness so they are plug and play. The harness will replace the factory one (if there is one) and plugs into a connecter in the passenger side kick panel.
