Welcome to FTE

What's a t56?

390 engines were not introduced until 1968 in F100/350's

1965/67 F100/350: Only V8 offered: 352 2V / On sale day, 352's magically become 390's!

I suspect he is referring to a 1992+ issue Borg Warner T-56 six speed manual transmission.

The first thing to consider is some sort of a bellhousing adapter as I don't believe there was a T-56 ever factory-installed behind a 352 or any other FE engine.

A previous owner has swapped in a newer engine which from looking up the casting numbers on the block and the heads I am guessing is a 390 from about a 1968 passenger car.I know the t56 never came behind an Fe ,but there are adapters available .I was just wondering if anyone here had possibly done the swap and if so how they liked it. I have lurked on this forum for a while just recently became a member.I believe it was number dummy's info that I used to figure out the casting numbers . Thanks in advance for everything guys. Dan

Contact these folks. They have a T-5 to FE so that's half-way there.

Understood. But if they are set up to manufacture a bell housing adaptor for a FE to T5, then all they have to do is machine one side of the bell to accept the T56.

The T56 will be a poor choice. The shifter will end up under the front of the seat and there are no relocation options.

A Tremec TKO 500/600 with the forward shifter option will place the shifter about where it was stock. 3550/TKO

Speedway offers a new steel bellhousing to specifically mount these transmissions to your FE. Ford FE 352-390-427-428 Steel Bellhousing - T5 & TKO - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop

It will not be cheap but neither is a used T56.

Or go with bucket seats. Check Bill W here on for brackets he has made to fit mustang buckets in these trucks. From the sounds of it shifter may still be to far back for comfort of shifts.

Good idea about the buckets, use a reverse bent shifter like the type that was used in the old van's and even the jeep FC-150/170's.

Do any of you guys happen to know how far the shifter on an np435 sits from the block face for comparison?

Thank you buzz that showing to be basically 12" and the t56 magnum on its forward shifter location is 18.9" I might still have to get creative with beding the shifter some but not as bad as I thought unless you guys know of a different six speed with an .50 final overdrive where the shifter would sit slightly closer to stock location when I have enough money I might just have to get one.Dan
