I like the FX4's because of the light 4wd abilities and they come standard with the tow package. The main reason I paid quite a bit more for my 2010 is because it has the Lux interior package and My Ford Touch and others. Being a working man myself, I'm finding it's getting a bit hard to swallow the high cost of the new trucks. There is nothing wrong with an XLT, and when I buy my next truck, if it has the options I look for, I would most certainly buy one. And to KSCRUDE: to get Tim angry is an amazing feat, and if you want to stir us up with your trash talk, find another forum as some of us are more civilized..
I priced a 2012 XLT and FX4 and there was less than $1400 in the difference. The grey and tan XLT interiors are a turnoff for me and the thin skin chrome bumpers are another sore point. I had but the front and rear bumpers replaced on my 05 XLT in the first 14 months while the paint on my 06 FX4 bumpers stayed decent for three years and I got them repainted in their fourth year I ended up ordering the FX4 and I hope to have it early next month.
xlt with the xtr package I do like the fx4 cosmetics things like the head and tail lights but I do need the extra seat it makes the truck more versatile and roomie for those long trips
Sir I have the greatest respect for you. I am sorry to have offended you. This is my last comment on the matter. Thank you for your service.
Sir, no hard feelings for me. A primary issue with the internet is that it has little emotion and ones words can easily be misinterpreted. Thanks for stepping up and re-posting.
But anyway, I think it's fair to say that Ford builds a truck to fit most budgets and most needs and for that I'm thankful.
I bought my daughter a brand new 2010 Focus and then my 2011 F-150 just a year later. I had to sacrifice a little on the truck to make sure my kid has a nice car to go off to college with. Otherwise I'd be carting my self around in a King Ranch, and painted bumpers be damned. I'm not loaded by a long shot but I just turned 50 and my new philosophy to spoil myself to the max extent that my pay will allow.
I wanted an XLT w/ bucket seats, but got an FX4 because of 2 things that I really needed: rear heat/ac and power fold mirrors. I kinda like the chrome bumpers, my 2002 had them and they don't get chipped up like the painted ones.

anyway, my 2 cents.
What do you men when you say rear heat / AC? The XLT screw does not have rear heat / AC ducts / outlets?
The trucks that can have the flow-thru console has a/c and heat ducts in the console that directs some air to thew back seat. Since the flow-thru console isn't available on an XLT that feature isn't available either.
Thanks fellas for all your replies and opinions. Sorry my post somehow turned into a dispute for a while....didn't expect that.
Anyways, after talking with a couple dealers I'm leaning towards a 2012 FX4. Especially after the rebates they offer! They sent me the $750 coupon after I requested a brochure on Ford.com and I get a student rebate of $500 since I graduated from college not long ago. And of course there are the dealer and ford rebates.
If anyone on here has bought a 2012 FX4 and doesn't mind telling me the price they paid I would appreciate it. It's not guna be easy to bring myself to spend this kind of money so I'm just curious of the deals others have been offered.
78F250351M, you'll like your new truck which ever way you go. Good luck on your purchase. The fact there were so many opinions on here is a good thing because there usually are many things brought up that maybe didn't get thought of. That's why I like coming on this forum. I know it's petty, but I don't like the flowthru console because of the location of the cup holders. It's just my opinion, but for the cost of these rigs we ought to be able to get exactly what we want.
I love my XLT - that 6th seat has come in handy many o' many o' times. Plus, I love the chrome package (added some duals out the back to add even MORE chrome plus my chrome starburst toolbox... love. it. to. death.) and the "washerboard" grille... yummy. Sexiest truck ever. Although when I went to add the window vents and bug guard - I stuck with smoke... didn't want to OVERDUE the chrome...
Plus the bench seat can come in really handy if you want to get a little rowdy... *wink*wink* lol. Oh, but make sure you have very dark tint (this was one of the first things I did - make the front tint match the back!)
Sorry, the hubs has been deployed for a little over 4 months, so I apologize for all the sexual innuendos... well, not really. Ha! In about 4 more months, going to give the bench seat another workout. Hehehe.
