So a guy.... Well call him Exfloflyguy , is getting his parts together to do some work on his truck . He's got his order together through an online dealer well cal "coolsley" Ford.....
On a whim he calls his local dealer (to go unnamed) and gives them his part umber for a thermostat that "coosley" sells for $20.20....
To his surprise his local parts guy says "yup... Got it in stock just bring me $36.74 worth of your hard earned money and we can do business"
Well.... Says Mr, Exflofly.... No thank you because I can get it from "X" for "$X" to which Mr. StealershipPartsMan relplys "oh well in that case Mr. Exflofly come give me $25.09 of the money you shed your blood , sweat , and tears to earn and well call it even.....
Much to Mr. Partscounterguys surprise, Mr. Flofly told him to keep his part and he'd pay his online parts man DOUBLE on shear principle......
The moral of this "joke" guys is DO YOUR HOMEWORK , and DON'T put up with the "gouging" ..... They ain't the only game in town
To be fair, at my local dealership there's a parts counter guy and a teller. I don't and as far as I know, can't talk $$ with that dude. The girls at the teller window look it up and hand me a ticket. My blue spring kit (w/cover) was $56 IIRC but Trans filter was like $54 and LV fluid was $7 a quart (ouch!) with a different teller. Seems like the second window -not the parts guy- is making the difference to me unless I'm missing somthing.
45% mark up my a$$....He's likely got less than $10 in the part to begin with, because "Coosley" aint givin it away at $20. It is shameful to gouge your customers that way. I was recently in need of an ICP pigtail. The guy at the parts counter quoted me $100. I wrote down the part # from the package, handed it back to him and walked out. It turned out to be $24 online.
Wow, I almost got emotional there...I think I am still pi$$ed off about it and its been 7 or 8 months.
yeah it is crazy how prices change from one place to another. I dont know if I got ripped off yet or not cause im affraid to look but I paid over $70 bucks for the little fuel filter cap the small one on the top of the motor. I feel like I should polish up the plastic and use it as a hood ornament or something. I told my grandpa about it and showed it to him (Grandpa ford guy since the 30's) he looked at it and almost fell over.
I just posted a thread on my blue spring install and had my reciept out. $64.62 for the complete kit w/cover. Like I posted above, I think it may be worth the time it takes to "chat up" the girls at the teller window.

Hate to break it to ya but I paid $20 for one on Ebay
I had a hard time with that lol I even thought 20 was too much
yeah I had a feeling thats what I get for going in there for one thing and adding 4 other things that popped in my head. I usually shop on ebay myself, dunno why I bought it there.
Dukie, for $70 it seems like you should be able to get that cap machined out of aluminum and anodized some cool color!
All this reminds me of a fella I worked for when I was in high school (some years back...) He explained business this way, "Buy somethin' for a dollar, sell it for two, ...say ya made one "percent". Buy somethin' for a dollar, sell it for three, ya made two "percent". Buy somethin' for a dollar, sell it for four, ya made three "percent", and so on. Ya could make a livin' on two to three percent!
Yep, now that I have discovered this site (and others) I won't be doing business with the Ford dealership again. Just paid almost $1000 for a FICM. I see that others got ripped off even more than me. The bad thing is I am an electronics technician and the FICM fix described on this site would (or should I say should) have been a breeze for me. I just didn't realize until yesterday that such good info was available on the web.
guys Im not here to defend the practice of this. However you have to be aware that "coolsley" and a few others have wholesale departments. if you walk in to that dealer the same as anyother you would more then likly pay more for parts vs the internet / wholesale price. they sale at cost and 20% on most items, there are a few that sale cost and 10%. I know of one that I can buy from at cost and 5% from time to timeas a tech but its will call only and a long drive.
also front counter pricing is cheeper then back counter pricing. so when getting your truck, car what ever fixed also varify the parts price from the front counter.
