Dual Shocks?

What advantages does a dual shock setup offer? Is there a practical reason for the average user?

It used to be an option Ford offered as part of a Tow Package for the light duty trucks. supposed to help bounce on bumpy roads and keep steerage

mostly though, they are used as bling

Thats what I DONT want. If they serve a purpose I can add them to the VERY long want list. But I'm not going to increase the cost of shocls by 30% just because.

there was an article where a magazine installed dual shocks on a superduty, and it made the ride MUCH worse.
the reason you install them is if your single shock cannot dampen the ride.
you would only overwhelm the stock setup with bigtires, 38" and up approximately.
contrary to common sense, the shocks dampen the movement of the SUSPENSION, not the BODY. you only want to dampen just as much as necessary for best control of the vehicle, any more and the ride will suffer un-necessarily, and you lose a degree of control because the suspension cannot react fast enough
