Hello,
I'm hoping to get a little good advice before I rebuild the motor in my '89 F350. It's got good compression on all 8 cylinders, but is using +/-3 quarts of oil / week now. I've heard that it could be the valve stem seals instead of the rings (which I'm hoping it is).
Is there a way to definately tell one way or the other?
I know it'll be easier/cheaper if it's the seals.....
I also have an '89 460 that burns about a quart every 300-400 miles. No leaks , no smoke, runs good. Have gotten a few BIG $$ estimates to rebuild. I've been told that the rings tend to stick on them so it pays to go beyond the valve seals. I'm still contemplating which way to go. Buy oil vs. spend thousands on a rebuild. Not sure how long I'm going to keep it. Good Luck!
