I am trying to figure out the best setup for my bronco. I have a D44 front and a 9in rear end with a 300 I6 4 spd. granny gear (NP435). I don't really mess with mud this would be mostly for rocks and crawling. Can you guys help me out?
i vote detroit rear with a track lock limited slip front, and i only say that because you said crawling is your thing. avatar pic looks like you are running 35's and that is pretty much the limits on a fullsize rig with a d44 front, especially for crawling. d44's like to go ka-boom! very easily when the steering is turned...say up against a rock or rut or stump. open would be better, but you need some kind of traction adder up front for a crawler and a track lock is the least aggressive and should keep you playing longer.
Thanks guys. Seem like is about time to do a SAS. I hope to get the extended radius arms eventually from JBG. However, I might for the time being stay with the TTB D44 with 35s.
Detroit locker or Grizzly locker in the rear, and if your considering a SAS, dont wast your money on anything for the ttb. You could always add one later if you have too.
And just because I know it is going to come up, the Grizzly is making quite a name for itself, even though it is still somewhat new to the market.
If you are at all worried about street driving, I would recommend nothing less then an ARB. Conversely, If its offroad only, I would recommend a full spool. My jeep was built for offroad, and although it sees 50/50 offroad/onroad, I run a spool and would not change it. But not everyone can live with one.
