The 'Problem' With Public Sector Pensions

Great article from USA Today a few days ago:

States expand lucrative pensions to more jobs

Nothing profound to comment on here. Good article, and it includes all of the states, and 'who' gets the enhanced pension plans (i.e. bigger payouts, early retirement) in each state.

I guess if anything really surprises me, it's that I assumed that firemen (like police) were granted these early pensions in ALL states (not true...most, but not all....)

Enjoy. Address anything you wish in the article or in general regarding public pensions. No reason why this should get political, which is why I put it in 'General'........and it's fairly topical, with all the talk about the budget 'issues' states are running into......

I can see the firefighters and policemen and other emergency responders, but the rest I don't really see the reasoning in. The article I read about was talking about the early retirement that the person can get say at 50 or 55 and recieve for life. I can go along with the concept of saying they can retire, but they can't recieve the pay until say in their 60's. Like the article said you can't keep on paying out for that long. As a side note there was a congressman that said they should look into the military pensions since he is saying you can't afford that pension and benefits for as long as many of them recieve, and to a degree I agree when they are saying we have to look at SS and other pensions.
