.... took it to the dealer and they ran a diag, said at a minimum a blown Oil cooler and will pull apart the EGR cooler and more than likely replace..
A blown oil cooler or EGR cooler does not explain your external leak.
However, a ruptured "EGR cooler" would explain your loss of coolant and the oily residue you found in your intake when you removed your EGR valve. Oil coolers don't usually blow, they usually plug up and cause your EGR cooler blow. So if they find that your EGR cooler has ruptured, be sure the oil cooler is replaced as well. I think replacing the oil cooler is standard operating procedure for Ford if an EGR cooler fails, but you should still verify.
You might also ask them explain the external leak, because it most likely wasn't the failed EGR or oil coolers.
will do W_Huisman thanks. they said last that they are replacing the one of the coolers and something on the turbo failed too. ill ask them to do a pressure test on the coolant system before I take it back, and get some more detailed info on what work their doin.
ok so blown oil cooler, EGR valve, center shaft of turbo and the unison ring in the turbo. and it should be wrapped up today. I just have to say that this was the best experience with a service department Iv ever had, and definately fast i took it in on monday.
said nothing about the leaking coolant but pressure tested it before they tore into it and was good and will pressure test it again before finishing up. said the EGR cooler was fine. I also asked them to see if its the new style EGR cooler and he said he'd ask the mech. iunno...
hey jesse, glad to see u made it back safe. i dunno bout u but i'd change the egr cooler if i was changing the oil cooler. if i was in the engine now, maybe also change out the dummy plugs too.
i'd be concerned bout the external leaking coolant. gotta be a crack somewhere. maybe one of the seals. i'd follow all the lines and change out all the seals and hoses just to be on the safe side. i'm jus paranoid when it comes to the six-o.
best of luck! i'm glad ur six-o is properly taken care of. she'll thank u for it.
"verified customers lack of power concern. cause: turbo charger seized. correction: performed KOEO found P0299 turbo overboost underboost condition, performed boost test 1.27PSI pass, visually inspected vehicle pass, checked oil pass, took fuel sample pass road tested vehicle monitored pids found turbo seizing. checked for intake restriction pass, perf EGR test failed to low voltage. replaced turbo housing and unison ring due to heavy pitting and unison ring seixed on housing, reconditioned turbo and reassembled, installed into vehicle cleared DTCS and road tested vehicle while monitoring pids toped off all fluids all ok.

now the turbo humms on spool up is that normal maybe new parts? asked about the EGR said it was damn ner brand new, and said it was the newer style EGR so didnt replace. so not worried about the EGR any more. thanks for all your help and support!
Sounds like the dealership did everything they were supposed to.
Just for posterity (and to ease my curiosity), can you pop your head under your hood and see if your EGR cooler is cylinder shaped or rectangular shaped?
Its square and very clean... my build date is 12/19/03, but my vin have 4EB which indicates a later build date? iunno not to keen on it Why do you ask what is your concern is my concern!
I'm just surprised they didn't change out the EGR cooler while they were in there. The square (newer style) EGR cooler that you have IS the failure prone version that all 2004.5 and newer trucks have, and I thought standard operating procedure for Ford was to replace both coolers simultaneously in the event that one fails.
However, if yours passed pressure testing, then it must be good to go.
What do you use to monitor water and oil temps? What are your temps now at highway speeds, after the fix?
Scanguage II, and so far the highes ECT was 191 and highest EOT was 198, and that was me trying to break stuff romping it all the way home from the dealer.
I do have to say that I got a hum drone sound now, debating taking her back in but I cant really loose the truck right now again. im thinking its either the new parts in the turbo or its that drone from the TSB.
