looking for a review 95 f350 460 4x4

I found a 95 f350 reg cab 4x4 460 5spd XL 53k miles. What should I look for in this truck? Did these have any real problems that I need to concern myself with? It is a single wheel truck all original no lift/mods, factory engine, no upgrades to speak of and no mods that i can see. What would be a fair price on this in good to really good cond? What can I expect the lifespan of one of these to be? I like the trucks but I want to make sure I'm buying a solid unit thanks.

When I went to buy a new 97 F350 xl w5sp I ended up with a F250xlt 4x4,7.5 reg cab. That was 14 years and 99k miles ago and this truck has been excellent in every way except gas mileage. I haven't abused it, but didn't baby it either. I bale hay and heat with wood so it's been used like a truck. Don't be afraid of hurting it. I'm afraid of the next truck I buy, buy but not this one.
Edit. I forgot one thing. The auto locking hubs are crap as mine went out fairly quick. I put warn manual hubs in and never looked back.

It sounds like a great truck, but being a F350 it will have a really harsh ride and you won't pass too many gas stations either (expect 8-12mpg range).

Can you take it to a shop and have them do a quick once-over on it? At the mileage it has (assuming it's correct), you shouldn't be looking at any major repairs yet, just maintenance items such as fresh fluids, belts, hoses, brakes, etc. If it's been taken care of, it should last for a long time.

Price-wise, something like that in my area would probably go for around $5-6K private party (due to the really low miles), and $7-10K at a dealer (some dealers in my area typically price vehicles such as this one about $5-6K too high, and then spend the next year marking it down by $1K every 2-3 months, I just don't get it at all , I laugh every time I see their new Craigslist ads and try to figure out how many months that same truck has been sitting on their lot unsold).

Thanks that is what I was hoping for. I always thought that these were as solid of a pickup truck I ever saw but wasn't sure. We have had 3 or 4 of the 93-97s over the years and had only minor problems. I like these trucks and wanted a xlt but the more i think about it is thee manual windows and locks will be nice.

The price is a little high I think ($9500) but I haven't really pushed with $100 bills yet. I won't pay that for it, but I will offer in the $7k range and see where it leads me. I am a fair mechanic but I was just wondering if there were any strange problems surfacing in the last few years, like we had some clutch slave cylinder issues with a 93 idi turbo but it had 200k on it so i guess 2 or 3 clutch repairs arent bad at 200k. I will try to do some dickering and see where it gets me.

that sure seems mighty high for a 16 yr old gas truck.
i scored mine (diesel) with 47k miles, and i'll tell ya,age takes her toll on things too.sitting does them no good.
50k on a 5 yr old truck,is completely different that 50k on a 15+ yr old one.
if i had started with a base price that even remotely resembled that (or even your offer, for that matter,) id be so far in upside down and unhappy (most likely broke too lol.)
im not saying don't buy it.but do yourself a huge favor first by continue to look around.there's no shortage of these old trucks out there.

yeah I'm afraid you're right. I have to hope for a drop in price to get me happily driving this one home.

Yikes on that price! I can only see paying even close to that if it was a Powerstroke (impossible to find a 7.3PS with that kind of low mileage these days). Good luck, keep the guy's phone # and check in periodically to see if he has sold it yet.

In the mean time, you've got to figure out what it's worth to you. You also may want to check with your insurance company to see what THEY think it is worth, which only matters if you get into an accident.

I agree on the price. I have had a hard time finding a decent pickup that isn't wore out for under 10-12k. I dont bother too much about the age, but I am seeing 7.3 psd trucks bringing over 10 and even some asking in the 15k range for 100k mile + trucks. I would rather have the 460 in leiu of the diesel due to fuel price, insurance, batteries, oil changes, and the maintenance of the diesel, so I thought this truck would be the sain alternative to a 160k mile diesel and hopeful that the 460 truck has another 100k left in it. I keep hearing that the pre 97 f350 is only worth $6-7K but I have failed to find anything decent or under 120k miles for that price. I have been looking actively for close to a year and those trucks aren't losing value. I hate to think that a 460 1995 f350 is a $10k truck, but I haven't found a single pre 97 in good shape for under $8k. I saw a 100k mile f250 psd this spring priced at $10k ext cab that an old guy owned bring asking price in 12 days. I saw a 96 f350 460 5 spd local truck with 113k miles bring $8500 in a week. Where are these $6,000 97s at? I have failed to find one that was a solid, nice, well taken care of truck. $6,000 is a 200,000 mile rig with tears in the seat, wrecks on record, and a bunch of dings and dents. If there is somewhere I am missing in the truck market, please enlighten. I don't want to pay $10,000 for a 95 truck, but I haven't seen one much cheaper on the market. About 5 or 6 years ago, my brother bought a phone company truck 96 f350 reg cab 5 spd with 4x4 with 120k miles on it and he paid $4500 for it and i thought that was plenty then, but that probably would be a $6,000 or $7,000 truck today, if you bought it and never drove it and kept it for 5 years you could makke $2,000. That is $500 a year, I think that is not too bad, I know where you guys are coming from, thankd for the input, but where are all of these $6,000 trucks? I Hope there is one left for me!!

1995-1997 (3/4-1ton) are some of the most sought after trucks. Here is how I look at it:
460 awesome motor (mpg sucks but lots of torque)
low miles
FORD BUILTWhat more could a man ask for? Seems great to me. I would say 6-8k for price. I know I'm not selling mine but I could not let it go for less than 8k. Price seems fair to me . Why are diesels the only thing of value? I can do everything a stock 7.3 can do with my 460. Accept mpg. GOOD LUCK

I went to Kelly blue book, used my zip code and entered what I would call better than average conditions as far as paint, bodywork, mechanical... came up with $5k private party value.
Excellent
$5,294
Very Good
$5,094
Good
$5,019
Verify Condition

Fair
$4,494

That is what I was wondering, I hate to pay that much for that truck but the pictures I got emailed to me are definetely excellent shape. Only hold backs are no cruise control and the price. The truck has brand new BFG tires and mag wheels, shackle reverse kit on front end, new headlights, chrome bezels and grill, all fresh fluid change and all maintenance records. Plus a tool box in the bed and a clean interior. I might post pics if interested. I got him down to $9000 on the phone today and he said he might come down a little more but i would have to come drive it and look. I think $8000 shes sold, maybe even at $8500. Windows are tinted. I know I put in the OP that the truck was all original and factory, which i was told by the guy's wife, when I actually talked to him I got the real story. Is the shackle reverse a good mod here? I like the add a leaf myself, but what you guys think? It does come with all original equipment. I want honest opinions and I think i am getting them, and I appreciate it. I see the value in the truck, especially with new tires and fresh fluids. I have always put all fresh fluids in every truck ive ever baught and this being done gives me peace of mind. I might still do it anyway, but either way, it is a $300 bill I don't have to foot for motor, pwr. steering, trans, T-case, frt end, rear end. I am thinking for now. I do like the loks of this thing though.

I did the blue book and got $4202 but I see one like this at a dealership but auto f250 130K miles, $7500 asking. NOT sold, but far from book either. Why is noone seeing blue book values on 92-97 trucks?

IDK, it seems like when I want to sell something, I'm lucky to get book value. I dont know how they come up with those numbers... maybe it's off because of people claiming they paid less when they go to register the vehicle to save on the sales tax.

For a gas truck the dealers should be asking book price, but diesel are a whole other story.

And what happend to all stock , no modifications?
