I'm interested in lowering my 99 Ranger, but I'm not sure what all I will need... I know the rear will need a flip kit, but is that all for the rear? becuase I don't want to drop it too much, I'd say putting the springs under the axle would probably be low enough for me. What about the front suspension? Will I have to replace anything other than the coil springs?
With a flip kit you will get about a 4" drop but you might have to "C" notch the frame to avoid hitting the frame when you hit bumps. If you install drop springs you will get a 3" drop (you will need to replace the shocks also). Springs on the front will give you 3" and also requires shocks and an aleignment kit. This is how I lowered my '99 and I'm happy with the result. My ride is not as good as stock but is OK and the "look" is worth it. Good luck.

How much of this can a "do-it-yourselfer" do at home? From what I read in the Haynes manual, the rear will be easy to work on, I'm not sure about the front since dono said something about alignment.
Dono, are you saying I can just replace the leaf springs to get a 3" drop? Someone told me a few months back that the flip kit is required? I don't remember what else he said though...
Yes, you can get 3" by replacing the rear springs and shocks. I did mine on my driveway in about 2 hours - and you can do it for less than $200. I had the front done by pros and it required springs, shocks and an aleignment kit - about $400 including labor. Good luck.
