I have a 87 Bronco II 2.9 6 cylinder. It was running fine and i stopped at the store and the trouble began.
Hard Starting and would not idle without keeping my foot on the gas above 1500 RPMS. Above 1500 runs smooth, but below 1500 it feels like the engine is trying to jump out of the truck. Replaced the IAC, Distributor, Rotor, Plugs and Wires and Front Fuel pump. The tank pump was recently replaced as well as the filter.
Conditions are currently:
1. Stalling and rough idle below 1500 RPMS.
2. Oil Light flashes at about 800 RPMS.
3. Lose of power when going up hill.
4. Hard shifting at 25 and 45 MPH.
5. Burned almost a tank of gas trying to get it home (40 miles).
6. Smells real rich.
7. Ticking sound at lower RPM's.
??? Any ideas??
If it smells real rich, I'd probably start by looking at things that would make it run rich. And I'd probably start that search with the fuel system.
1) Run the pumps, then pull the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). If there is gas in that vacuum line, the FPR needs replaced.
2) Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what the fuel system is doing.
3) I'd also probably pull codes from the computer to see if the PCM has anything to contribute to the diagnosis.
