In my 97 CCSB I am having problems with the e-brake. All new rear brakes, rear cables, hardware, cut drums. The e-brake pedal goes right to the floor with little resistance and the brakes doesnt hold too much at all.
I have a new front cable coming and the intermediate cabe is obsolete.
yeah, but it's very easy to tell if the auto adjuster is working good or not.
good luck Brad.i have such a hard time trying to get them just passable for yearly safety inspections.never had trouble with 8.8 axle and brake setups on the f150's but for some dang reason the sterlings e-brake system flat out sucks.
you need to spend all your time focusing on what the shoes are doing when you tighten your cable.you need to make sure the lever is spreading to it's fullest so they press against the drums.
i had a hell of a time trying to figure out one side, and finally figured out my backing plate was bent.
you'll know if this is bent, because the wheel cyl will hit.
everything brand new,and the e-brake still sucks, and that's putting it nicely lol.
id like to have all my lost hours back spent over analyzing the **** poor setup cus it was a lost cause in the end.
another tip,
if a po run into this trouble too (most likely of course) he may have been tempted to push extra hard on the e-brake in an attempt to make them work.this bends the lever.so spend time with a 3lb to make sure those are bent back so the cable fully spreads the shoes outward.i run into that on both sides.that was the biggest issue.
My e-brake in my old 97 and my current 96 work flawlessly. Even backwards which they are NOT designed to hold in.
the auto adjusting pedal seems as though ti is doing its job, it just deems like I am not getting enough throw. If the new front cable doesnt fix the problem I am going to try one of those universal adjusters you put in line
i just remembered what the largest issue i run into was.see latest tip.that's likely whats happening.i wish i had your results on the other trucks.i spent many hours closely analyzing each single part of the lever system and concluded getting better results was basically impossible because every part was fully working as indented by the time i was done.whatever you find out,be sure to let us know.
