This morning, the Check Engine light on my 1998 Expedition ( 4x4 Eddie Bauer) started blinking on the highway. When I pulled off and began to slow it began shaking noticeably. I limped on to the gas station at the exit and began to examine it. I could not see anything visibly and I was able to start it and drive it around the building. It was still vibrating (shaking) so I took it and dropped it off at the dealership to have diagnostics run on it. Any ideas of what it could be? Looking at the manual it says the blinking Check Engine light means the engine is mis-firing and that is about as ellaborate as it gets.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Bryan
Hey Thanks for the reply, you hit the nail on the head. It was the number 4 coil. The dealer also suggested replacing the spark plugs all for the unbeatable price of $450.00. So I went and picked it up, paid my $57.00 diagnostic fee and stopped by the auto parts place and bought the coil and Bosch platinum plugs for roughly $70.00. I went home and me and my brother replaced the coil in about 20 minutes. The spark plugs will take some time, I plan on saving that for the weekend.
Thanks a bunch for the help and confirming the dealerships findings!
meine deutsch ist nicht ser gut....actually it sucks
hehe
Thanks for letting us know what you found and good luck with replacing the plugs
If you do a search on here you'll find other people's tips on replacing them. One thing you'll see is that some people say to remove the fuel rails....you dont have to do that if you have a good selection of extensions, a universal joint etc.
