Oil pick up help needed

I have a F1 with a 215 in it. It is one of the most cooter installs I've seen.
Anyway, it had this dented up oil pan and it big reservoir part was facing the
Front of the truck. So I went to install a new oil pan and noticed that if I put the oil pan with the big reservoir part toward the back it won't fit . I guess I need to find a oil pick up that will fit that oil pan with the larger portion facing the rear of the truck. Any ideas? Where can i get such a pick up? LMC had nothing from what I could see . Thanks as always!

You should post a picture of your pan and the current pick-up. I have a 215 still bolted to my F2 chassis. I'll snap a picture of what an unmodified 215 oil pan is supposed to look like (if I can remember to do that over the weekend).

If you want to go stock, I think Ilya (aka 51Panelman) probably has some 215 parts laying around (maybe a pan). The oil pickup is probably available from a local auto store.

He already bought a stock oil pan from me several months ago. I had a complete oil pick up assembly, but don't remember what I did with it. I, too, have a complete 215 motor, but I'd like to get rid of it as a whole.

My suggestion is to call Antique Auto Supply in Texas or Green Sales in Ohio as both stock NOS and obsolete parts.

I just recently purchased 75% of parts needed to rebuild my 215 from Green Sales and spent under $200 for all NOS parts.

Not what's pictured

I post pics when I get a chance . But the pick up and oil pan don't look like what's pictured above. Does it matter whitch way the fat part of the oil pan goes? I would prefer to have it towards the rear so it doesn't get dented some how like the last one. I'll try one of those company's 51panel recommended. I'll try and post pics this weekend.

It looks like this http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...d=290607137126

I guess I have a 223 not a 215? Huh? Is it still possible to use that oil pan it fits on there? Will a 215 oil pump fit a 223? I'm confused now.

On a 223 does the sump portion of the pan have to face the front? I have a 215 oil pan and wanted tho use it with the sump facing the rear but the pic up I have won't let the pan fit that way. The reason I want the sump part facing the rear is because the pan I just replaced was all dented up from the axle. I don't know how it happened but trying to stay away from that by putting the sump part toward the rear so there is. Little more clearance up front

The sump is supposed to be to the rear on both the 215 and 223; maybe that is why your pan was all dented by the axle? I can't believe it would even fit both ways, tho, look at the shape of the front and rear, not at all the same. The oil pickup tube also faces to the rear. On cars, it may be the opposite; and may explain why yours was to the front. Cars had IFS so the sump could have been up front.

The 215 and 223 in truck applications had a rear sump, Cars with the 215 and 223 had a front sump pan.

You must have a car pan if its a front sump. I sent you an email about this.

First oil pan looks like a 223 and later. The other oil pan is from a 215.

I don't believe that cars with 215 or 223 had a front sump oil pan. I further believe that all 215 and 223 were similar except for the different mounting locations for truck vs car.

First thing; are you sure your engine is a 215 and not a 223?

If your new pan is a Truck pan, then all you need to complete the transformation is a Truck oil pickup. There's a chance the new pickup has a mount on one of the bearing caps that would require a different bolt on that cap, I couldn't say tho.

Yeah it is a 223. That 215 pan will bolt up, should i not use it? Also heres a picture of the oil pickup i got from AutoZone it wont work but i could modify it with some cutting and welding. the flange is the wrong way and the bends are not right. Should i modifiy this one or take it back and keep looking for the right one?

Called Greens Auto in Ohio. They said no such thing as a rear sump oil pick up for 223.
