My 2011 F-150 XLT Screw has mirrors which have the only powered item as
the adjustment of the mirror/glass. No blinkers, no fold, no heat....
If I buy upgraded mirrors that have the blinkers in them should those be plug and play and the blinkers will work? I do realize that for the heat feature to work it would require an additional button on my climate control panel - so I may not be able to get that to work.
I have heard some folks say that they think the wire harness is already set up to support those additional features.
Thanks, I have tried that and everybody is guessing. I have had answers both ways.
I was hoping that someone here has had to deal with this before and could let me know what they found.
My FX4 came with heat, power mirror and turn signal, but no puddle lamp. Last year I put on Ford tow mirrors with all the features I already had but the tows have puddle lamps and when I plugged the wires up, I now have them. Do you have rear window defroster because that is what works the mirror heat?
I'm pretty sure the wiring is there for those features, unless it's an XL. If you have rear defrost, it's a plug and play operation. Without rear defrost, you'll have to install the switch and relay, and fuse for rear defrost to have the heat work on the mirrors. I don't know what the cost would be for that, but I'm sure somebody can help and also correct me if I'm wrong.
The harness should include the turn signal as well. You may have to get a hold of a wiring diagram so that you know which wires supply the power for the blinkers.
When I first got my truck I didn't know how to defrost my mirrors until I read the manual and that's how I found this out. I'll tell you what though, the mirror defrosters work great.

my a/c controls has a little pic of a mirror with the defrost symbol in it.
and i don't have rear defrost in my truck. might be a random thing one way or the other.
Ok, well thanks for the info. I think I will pursue the mirror upgrade and if I get them and they don't work I will have to figure out a way to wire them up.
So, who has a set of mirrors with blinkers and hopefully puddle lamps they want to sell?
Just remember that the tow package mirrors are MUCH wider ( even when set at their narrowest ) than the standard side mirrors. I have to fold my drivers side mirror in and hold toward the drivers side when entering my garage door. You might have a single, large garage door and not be affected by this...but I was, so I'm just offering it as "food for thought".
