engine running rough and smoking
I have a 97 f250 with a 351 and 46,000 miles. The other day the engine started making a ticking noise and now it is blowing smoke out the oil fill cap and dipstick tube. A lot of smoke. It seems to run fine in that it has good power but something is seriously wrong with all the smoke and it uses a lot of oil. We use it in the field driving slow all day in 4wd and it has been using about 3 quarts of oil a day. I finally decided to repair it but I was wondering if anyone knew what I might be looking at.
Have you checked the compression?
