Shocks for lowered rear

Do I need to buy shorter shocks now that I lowered the rear with the leaf removal.

Good chance you will need new shocks. You need to calculate the maximum compression and extension the shocks will likely encounter with your new ride height. Let me know if you need more details on the procedure. I can explain it if nobody knows where a website is that outlines it.

Shocks for lowered rear

Once I got my rearend and shock crossmember installed, I measured the distance in between the two. With this measurement, Napa or anyone else can look up a shock that has this distance as a middle value. If I remember correctly, my distance was 14", and the shock travel was like 11"-17". Mine were Monroe Sensatrac shocks.

Hope this helps

Mike

Monroe SensaTrac's here, too on my '59 after having it "mildly" lowered by de-arcing the leaf springs.

Rosa,
Take the measurements as mentioned in the posts above to your local auto parts store and get a set of shocks that fit in that range of measurements. Jack up the truck, compress the new shocks, shove them in place, let them expand out and seat themselves in the shock tower braces, tighten the nuts, and away you go! Pay attention to the sequence of how the bushings & washers go in... pretty straight forward stuff though.

Good luck,
Daryl
