hey i have a 1989 f250 4X4 with the 5.8 v8. i'm in the process of replacing the throttle position sensor to hopefully solve a rough idle problem. well i had to pull the throttle body off to get the stupid thing off...and when i went to reinstall it and then adjust it i ran into a problem. my haynes manual says that all that all the sensors except the 4.6 or 4.9 (can't remember which it was) has to be adjusted to between .5 and 1.0 volts at idle. well my question is how do i accomplish this? the book said to loosen the sensor screws and rotate the sensor till the volt meter reads 1.0 volts. how do you rotate the sensor when the holes that the screws mount through are not slotted? if anyone has any advice or knows the proper procedure for reinstalling the tp sensor i'd really appreciate the help.
YOur new TPS should be very slightly slotted. I lined mine up dead center and tightened it up. Yes I had to pull off the throttle body also and even had to grind of the heads of the stock screws to get it off!
Lots of luck. It will solve some issues by changing the TPS. The best benifit will be gas mileage.
The adjustment was on early TPSs that weren't manufactured precalibrated. When they began doing that, the holes were molded round instead of slots because adjustment wasn't necessary any more.
