I have an 88 bronco II with a 91 2.9 that I just put in. I was having problems with it missing. I changed every sensor, coil, ign. mod. fuel pump, fuel filter, the whole nine yards. I found out I got a hold of faulty plug wires. $500 later it runs like a top. The only thing is when I first start it within 30 sec. it starts to flood out. I'll let it set there for 5 to 10 sec and it will clear up. I can drive it all day long, but if I turn it off and start it back it will do the same thing. It really don't bother me a whole lot, but the thing runs so good I would like to figure it out. Any suggestions? I've now got about $5000 in it and want it to run like new. Worth every penny!!!
Check out the fuel pressure regulator! Remove the vacuum hose from the back of the FPR and if gas comes out it is bad. You can also use a fuel pressure testor on the Schrader valve located on the Rail to test the fuel pressure.
The fuel pressure regulator has been changed and I had the pressure tested and it was 40 psi.I also had the injectors tested at the ford place and the guy that checked them said they were the best injectors he has ever seen on a 2.9. Thank you for the comment, anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Unplug the battery for 24 hours to reset the computer. Then when you hook it back up, from the first time you turn the key, operate the car like you want to drive it for the rest of it's life. If you like to warm the car up in the morning, do it. That way the computer will "learn" how to operate for you. A lot of people with fuel injected cars start and drive right off the bat. That is not a problem, but if the car is used to doing that it will load up at first startup because it is used to being under a load right away. It has been programed to add fuel to keep the truck running while it's cold. Just something to try.
