Hard starting when cold
Recently my 89' F-150 300 does not want to start, especially after night and sometimes after leaving it sit sometimes for as little as 10 minutes. Once it is warm, I can restart it and it instantly fires to life. It used to start with very little effort. Here are the symptoms:
After anywhere from 5-8 seconds of cranking it will finally "catch" but it idles very poorly and if I don't nurse it with the gas pedal it will usually die, and again struggle to get it started. I notice a very strong gas odor once it's running, and I notice the same problem on both front and rear tanks. Plugs have about 10K on them and look good. Once running after about 10 seconds of poor idle it is fine and has no problems.
I have not checked the timing or the distributor rotor yet, hope to do that soon. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
