Question 351c install info needed

i am wanting to install a 351c engine inplace of my 351w...now i have heard the 351c has the smallblock bolt pattern just like the windsors and motor mounts am i correct?..also does anyone know if the harmonic balancer is the same for the two engines..of what i have heard this is a bolt in swap as long as you have a original 351c..i do not want a 351m or 400 so i am not even thinking about them cause of there big block bolt pattern and i have a nice smallblock C6 ready for the swap..well any info would be helpful thanks.

yes the W and C are interchangeable as far as bell bolt pattern and mounts. all C's use a 28oz imbalance flywheel/flexplate as do early W's. not sure what year W's went to 50oz imbalance? stock balancers are engine specific, but aftermarket will fit both by use of an adapter for the pulley.

A 351C will need different exhaust manifolds or headers. Some people have cross-bred the two by using Cleveland heads on a 351W block.
The 351W is a decent engine by itself. I'm wondering why you want to swap it for another engine of the same displacement.

The 351w never switched to a 50 ounce counterweight. All 351c and 351w used the 28 ounce weight. The 302 changed from 28 to 50 about 1981.

Just done that swap in a 76 ranger.Used the mounts that were. on 302.Got my exhaust manifolds off of 351 modified 400 the cleveland and 400 use the same heads.used the car oil pan it worked just makes changeing oil messy.Went to auto zone got electronic ignition distributor for 74 ranchero with 351 cleveland it is working fine plugged right up.Used fly wheel that was on 302 so i could keep transmission that was in truck,Drive truck every day nothing like the sound of a cleveland through flow masters.Hope this helps Wes Tanner
