The first line of the article in bold red letters states that it had the original 6 banger in it when he got it. That means he made a conscious decision to install the Ford powerplant. Even better!
Oh I remember what it was, further in the article it wrote that the current owner had bought it with the ford already installed, the previous owner had changed the old 6 cyl engine over to the ford engine and the current owner just kept it that way.
Back 15-20 yrs ago I put a 318 in a '37 Chevy pickup. Chevy folks were more than minorly upset. I was young with children and no money. Had the Plymouth wagon just sitting. It also had a 9"

LOL! A likely story. Probably the current owner didn't want to put up with the hate mail, and passed the buck (or blame) to a 'previous owner'.
Well ,back in the 1970s ,I put a 352 from a 59 ford police car in a 52 chevy pickup. They are about the same size on the out side as a 390. Not a good fit , sold it right away to one of my cousins. Gas pedal stuck one day and he puts it in park or reverse , made junk out of the transmission. He sold it to somebody else who fixed it and drove it around a few years. I don't know what ever become of it then.
I knew when I saw this thread that there was going to be a lot of "REVENGE" served up. It's always interesting to me to see reaction to mongrel power train setups. As some of you may recall my truck is chevy powered. I happen to like the body style of the mid fifty Fords but I'm more familiar with gm power trains. I've always had one or two built engines sitting around in my shop and it was a simple matter of economics what kind of engine I would be using. If I had a choice of motor for my truck, it would be a 392 Hemi . I had two of these motors back in the 60's, but got rid of them before going on a 3 year vacation compliments of Uncle Sam. These days they are a little too pricey for my wallet.
I really don't consider myself to be a Ford, GM, or a Mopar guy. I've had some really good and some really bad vehicles in all these brands. If I didn't have the F100, I'd be looking for a 47-48 Studebaker pickup and I guess it would be 454 powered because I've got one of those already built, patiently waiting for a new engine compartment.
Now if I could just figure out how to fund a turbo charged LS motor in an early Miata.
