i have a 1999 motorhome w/ V-10, runs 10 miles then red oil temp light comes on , check engine light comes on next.... goes into cool-down mode next, checked codes... showed right cyl head hot, o-2 sensor, funny thing is nothing is hot, you can shut it off , once or twice and it will run forever. we have replaced cylinder head sensor, water temp sensor, both o-2 sensors, and computer module, because its a motor home, cant get local ford dealer to help, tryed 2 local repair shops both could not find it. checked wiring best we can, checked grounds. water is not hot. cyclinder heads were checked 6 months ago ... when problem first started....help, desperate in oklahoma.....
The red oil light is not a oil temp light, it is a light that indicates very low or no oil pressure. Get an oil pressure gauge on the truck to check and verify the actual oil pressure. The stock gauge is far from adequate.
An engine without adequate oil volume and pressure can overheat and not run well. The oil not only lubricates it cools as well. Hopefully you have an electrical issue but I would make sure you have adequate oil pressure.
The dashes used in motorhomes have a red light that comes on when ANY of the gauges go into the red. Kind of a double warning feature. (Do you look at the gauges every minute?)
Sounds like a water flow issue. Make sure the hoses are good and that the lower hose is not collapsing, cutting off the coolant flow into the water pump. What does coolant look like? If it's nasty, maybe a radiator flush out?
Good luck with it, and sorry to hear about the sorry dealer who won't work on your Ford.
