I have had my 06 f-350 for about 4 days now i bought it from a dealership running it normally not beating on it or driving it rough and today as i was taking my wife to the movies she points out that my check engine light is on i haven't gotten it checked yet but is this a bad omen and get the dealership to give me another truck or should i try to go through the hassle of extended warranty....this is my first diesel and i was hoping and praying that it would be a pleasant experience.
I would definitely get them to scan the codes and see what's up. Hard to say what to do until you know what the problem is. Could be somthing small and inexpensive. Many guys have the extended warranty(I do not). it's not a bad idea if it's through Ford. There are several types/levels of coverage. If they only offer you a third party plan, I would skip it and take my chances.

+1.... VERY solid advice !!!
If you do decide to keep it the FIRST thing most will tell you to do is get an OBD2 aftermarket guage set up, most use the Scanguage2 , I use the edge Insight CTS.
Ive come to the conclusion that you should have one before you buy your first tank of fuel..... They can stop ALOT of the chain reaction issues that diesels are prone to as long as you watch them.
