This is a little out of place but here goes. My wifes 02 ex just doenst heat the inside of the cab like it should. The needle goes into the normal position. I replaced the thermostat about a year ago and that didnt help. Thanks for any help.
Check the valve in the heater hoses and make sure it is opening and closing. If that is working I would think the trap door on the inside heater it self. There's write ups on this someone should pop in with where to go.
One thing that works well if you have poor heat is to take a length of heater hose and put a tee in it so you can connect a garden hose to one side and a compressed air hose to the other tee connection.
Connect the other end of the heater hose to the heater core and turn on the water supply.
Now, GENTLY AT FIRST, begin puffing the air hose through the water supply to the heater core.
The extra pressure and flow will dislodge buildup on the inside of the heater core and flush it away.
I've taken cars into the shop with a completely non functioning heater, (not making heat at all), and cleared out the heater core to the point where you could melt your toes if you didn't turn down the heat.
The one thing that kills a heater core quicker than anything else is the owner dumping a container of sealing compound into the cooling system to fix a leak instead of finding and fixing the leak.
All that new debris that was just introduced to the coolant settles out in the heater core because the entry and exit points are at the top of the core and the flow rates through the core are not that fast.
Guess what?
You just cemented shut all the passages at the low point.
It's funny to see all the mud that comes out on the floor with some of them.
My own Passat was one of those victims, owner didn't want to fix the car and I bought it for a VERY good price.
Spent more on parts fixing it up than I paid for the car, but now I have a warm, dry, reliable car that I can drive for the next ten years without having to spend any more money on it.
