Hello everybody. I recently had my 06 f-350 CC with the 6.0 PSD stolen from me. I am presently shopping around so in the event my truck is not recovered, i can have something lined up. My question is..What type of fuel mileage can I expect to get in a similar truck with either the V8 or V10?
Wow, tough luck on the truck! Any hope of getting it back? In answer to your question though, I've got a 2005 SC 4x4, 3.73 gears w/ the 5.4. I get about 12-14 on the highway (not much town driving) and only a little better than half of that towing anything of any weight. Most people on here w/ the v10 of a similar age seem to report 1-2mpg less than that.
How much did you tow w/ your old truck, and if so how heavy? Reason I ask is that if you're used to pulling w/ a diesel you might have trouble adjusting to a 5.4. Make no mistake, it's a stout little motor and can hold it's own, but it will rev to 3-4,000 to do it, don't worry though it can take it and come back for more. Also, don't expect jack rabbit starts with it either when you're pulling anything, it might take a little ways to get up to speed. Gears would help in that regard. I've never towed w/ a v10 so I can't really comment on them. I have towed w/ a diesel though and I admit it makes my truck look like a prius almost. If you're like me though and not towing a lot or very heavy a 5.4 will work just fine for you.
Current V10 crew cab dually gives me pretty much 10 all the time (mixed driving and the dually doesnt help).
Previous 06 Super Cab 5.4 was around 11.5 similar driving.
You'll see the claims all over the place. Mine are all hand calculated and the I owned that 5.4 for 3 years and the V10 for 6 months. Make sure if someone lists some high mpg numbers that you make sure to find out what cab, 4x4 or 4x2, etc... Someone with a reg cab 2wd will get better mileage than my truck. Also I'm not a full throttle person. I'm in a good mood to push it above 2300 rpms.
My V10 crew cab gets about 12 flat in mixed driving and can knock out 15+ freeway only. Not great, but I'm happy considering it's about the same MPG I got from an underpowered 1/2 ton Chevy 4x4 standard cab I used to own.
My 5.4 2010 gets 14-16 mpg unloaded and 12-14 towing my boat, tractor, side by side on a trailer..... If I'm light footed I'll be toward the high end, heavier foot and the mpg reacts accordingly.
Hey all,
I am going to say this even though most people will say I am full of it but here it goes. My dad has a 2002 Ford F250 4x4 Triton V10 mostly stock as in suspenssion and we were averaging about 17 MPG highway up hills and all that at 75 MPH. The truck gets around 15 in town. We weren't towing then but we do tow. We have a old pure steel tandem axle horse trailer with two horses in it averaging about 15 highway. Our truck does haul alot we had a 10x40ft park model home on the back of a triton V10 (our last truck) and it pulled at highway speeds. If pulling I would recomend the triton V10. The guy who sold us the last truck (ext cab) has a triton v8 and he isn't to satisfied with how it pulls he really wants the triton v10 or a diesel. Now I do agree a diesel will pull more and alot easier(I learned this big time from another thread). With that being said I don't care if others seem to disagree but this is the facts the cold hard truth. But hey it could depend about other things why one triton v10 gets 17 and one gets 8 (just an example).
Trav
2011 F250 6.2L 3.73 crew cab w/ stock size BFG ATs - i've averaged between 12-13 mpg over 36,000 miles with most of that being highway running between 65-75mph.
