I have a 2002 Explorer Limited that I bought last week. The Keyless Entry code didn't come with it. I am wanting to remove the rear speaker and vent cover on the right side panel and need to know if it is a friction fit retainer type or attached from the inside necessitating removing the hole panel. I know I saw something on this but my last search didn't come up with the answer.
Thanks,
Scott
You shouldn't need to remove the entire inner trim piece. Instead, open the passenger side rear door and pull the weatherstripping away from the trim piece where the rear of the door meets the panel. Then you can pull the panel away from the body. The panel is held to the body with those push-in style clips. You should be able to pull the panel away from the body far enough to see the Central Security Module (CSM) using a good light and hopefully also see the 5-digit code on a sticker affixed to the CSM.
I've read that it's further up on the 02+ Explorers. Behind the panel, next to the second row of seats. This is what info is available on a google search.
