I have a 1996 Eddie Bauer edition bronco with the 351. I can't find any space for my exhaust. I took it into the exhaust shop, he didn't sound too excited to even try. He immediately said single. But i do not want to give up on this too quick, i don't mind spending extra cash for it.
The only way i see it being possible is if it passes underneath the front drive shaft, there is no room above it. Which doesn't sound like a great idea to me. Anyone know of any gaps for the driver side exhaust pipe i can't find?
Have any of you guys done dual exhaust? i would be very interested in seeing a picture of how you got it done. (i get the feeling there is no way to get dual exhaust and have it look pretty underneath.)
first its not worth it. you will gain nothing but expense and no performance over a properly built single exhaust setup. the purpose of duals is for the pipes to be as strait as possible to allow better flow, all the bends and such defeat the purpose.
if you want the dual look then get a single in/dual out muffler.
I am running jba shortie headers, a custom built 2.5" y pipe into 3" hi flow cat into hooker aerochamber muffler also 3" and then cut just under rear quarter panel. a similar setup will give you the best gains and sound great.
Yep. True duals are meant for sports cars, not for trucks. You lose low end torque with the lack of back pressure. Single in, dual out is the way to go. I would get a magnaflow. Chambered mufflers sound awesome but their flow sucks.
Like Kemical said get a single in double out. I talked to guy a with an OJ white Bronco he said he was able to do true duals and it was a big mistake. So many bends.
My brothers 95 Mustang GT is true duals with an X pipe and I looked his was straight back with room.
The ONLY way I would even consider trying true duals would be to runthem side by side in the OEM route. Even then, everything the guy have already mentioned is right. 3" single in the OEM route works just fine. You wont gain but rather begin to LOSE power if you try to go bigger or more pipes. The truck engines need the backpressure to develop torque. Too much scavenging on the outbound side will lose that.
Well, I was kinda thinking single In Dual out on a flowmaster super 44 series with hedman elite headers. I'm looking to get a low growl out of it.
I guess I give up on dual exhaust.
Any of you guys know what the Difference between Hedman elite and hedman street headers is?
na, my truck is loud when im on the throttle but quiet when im coasting. the problem with the flowmaster mufflers is the resonate bad in the cab while going down the road. it might be fun at first but trust me it gets old fast. I had a 50series at one time and even with it rotated at 45* to help some it was annoying. the aerochamber muffler doesnt drone. there may be others that wont drone either.
remember that what ever headers you do get that the O2 sensors get put back in there stock locations and have the exhaust guy install HiFlow magnaflow cats in there. they are $60 a piece and flow great. this way you wont worry about emissions testing either.
I have the Hedman Elites on my 351...Full-length...And at first I wanted to go with true duals myself...But It would be a total PITA, and all the bends would just defeat the purpose...And with the full-lengths i have. Its still gonna be "fun" just to run the Single 3 inch. Gonna have to trim the collectors back...But this guy who owns a shop by me...Amazing, This guys work is Solid, Gotta pay a little more than other places..but so worth it. Ill be running a Dynomax Ultra-Flo...Buddy has em on his 408w stroker Fairmont. I had a Flowmonster on it, dumped, and it was on my old Aerostar before...Resonates like a SOB. But it did give both vehicles a unique sound lol.
I'll end up doing something very similar boss351. I've noticed all of you guys stray away from the flowmasters, I was thinking either super 40s or 44s.
I really like magnaflow. It's stainless steel, and they are straight through. They have sound deadening material inside but it sounds great. Wish my car had its motor in it at this time to show you. I have an old SLP Loudmouth on my truck. Pretty loud for still being catted.
I'll have to look around. Only thing I have to judge it by is my Buddys got super 40 series.. it sounds really good. But its super quiet. It's got about a 5 foot radius. Unless he really gets on it.. he has a simple cat back system though. No headers.
Well when I worked at my parts store job, We did a couple flow tests on the mufflers we sold, Thrush, Dynomax, and Flowmonsters (40 series) one night when it was real slow. And mind you these were not high-tech tests lol. we blew shop air into them and felt how much was coming out with our hand. The Flows were the worst, and the priciest, The Thrushs did well, and were the cheapest, Didnt get the best sound. The mid priced Dynomax flowed the best. and sounded good. But they made my S10 Jimmy DRONE lol,
The only reason I went with a Flow on my Aerostar was I wanted it to be loud lol...and it was, and it was the best sounding 3.0 Vulcan Ive heard...And when i junked it(body was about to fall off the frame and i imploded the 7.5 rear end) I took the Flow and threw it on the Bronco...Oh and it was a 80 series cross-flow. And surprisingly it didnt have the "mustang" sound...but it resonated like nothing else in both
My main thing is that I dont want it to sound like every Mustang thats driven by some Tool who thinks he the cats meow cuz he has a low 13sec mustang and looks like something outta Fast n Furious...theres alot of these in the Detroit area, Besides...If you could hear the sweet beauty of my Buddies 408w stroker Fairmont with the Dynomaxs....yea
