I am planning to replace my engine. What kind of things do I need to keep in mind so that the swap is a match, (transmission, drivetrain, etc)? I have a 93 F350 4x4 with an E4OD transmission, single rear wheel, regular cab. Tx
If you have a 460 now just slip a fresh one in there,, A small block or diesel will require a transmission change among other things, such as computer and wiring...
You may want to check the torque converter support bushing and front seal on your tranny while you have the engine out, since it is easy to access at that point.
You can even go back to any of the fuel injection generations as long as you use your wiring harness and vacuum setup. The harnesses match the injectors and sensors, but the connection to the computer are different.
The only other notable thing I can remember is definitely take off the crank pulley and maybe even the water pumps. There's limited length for pulling the block and every inch counts. And I made a plate with a ring that bolts in place of the throttle body and it never showed signs of stripping out the intake. It gives much more stability and control than a chain.
