Looking for a big power boost from my 2000 SD 5.4. I want to tow a 5th Wheel RV trailer with my truck. Says on the Vortech website that it will boost HP from 260 to 345 and up torque to 441. Does anyone know about this first hand. Also would like some input on the Banks Power Pack for this truck. Thanks....
Barry, for the money you will spend on the supercharger or any type of Banks product, you could have gotten a powerstroke diesel. Not sure about what Banks offers for the gas engine but you can check their website out. www.bankspower.com They also have an 800 number you can call. 1-800-438-7693. Hope this helps some.
1Bad,
I bought the truck for other reasons then decided to go RVing. It is really a great truck and I have no complaints with it I would just like to make it tow more efficiently. The local Ford dealer wants too much for a PSD the same year as mine. My truck looks and drives like new so I want to look into some some way to upgrade it. If I'd known I would have bought a diesel to begin with. Oh well.
I haven't installed a vortech but I know to get the big power numbers they run a lot of boost and that requires an intercooler to keep the detonation away. They are also kinda like a turbo in that they build boost exponentially. They are not like a roots style blower with their flat boost rates. In short they don't build much power at low rpm's. It all comes on steeply with rpm.
