i need to know the bellousing pattern for an fe block. can't you tell if its for a c-6 by measuring between the top two bellhousing bolt holes?
also i could sure use some advice about swapping a three-speed on the column to a c-6.
For the bolt pattern i would make a cardboard template of the tranny bolt pattern then put against your bell housing to check.
As for the shifting you are probably best off to go to the auto wreckers and pick up a steering colum and linkage out of an old truck with a C-6. hope this helps.
I just went out in the garage and measured my FE C6. It's 6" center-to-center across the top two bolt holes. A regular SBF/Windsor/ is 5-1/16" across the top two holes. I don't have a 429-460 around to measure, but you can visually tell the difference between the two. FE's have an almost perfectly round bellhousing and bolt pattern. The old 'Y-blocks' are also round with 7-5/8" across the top bolts, but there are no one piece aluminum case trannies in that smaller bolt pattern to possibly confuse with an FE C6. The newer SBF/Windsor is squared off on the top, and the 429-460 is also squared off on the top, but is noticeably taller.
As far as other pieces go, you'll need an FE flexplate and steering column out of an auto truck also. Driveshaft will probably have to be changed.
Good Luck!
