2004 6.0 **** update ****

Hello all, Just finished installing a new guage pod on my 04 sd, everything seems to be reading fine, my question is on the boost guage, I tapped the elbow on the intake and have it all hooked up, Boost is only reading any psi if i stomp on it and then It reads up to about 10 psi, crusing range it reads around 5 psi max, Im new to the diesel world so I dont know if that is correct or not, I seem to recall many people stating stock boost in the 20ish range, the truck seems to be working fine and seems to have plenty of power but again this is the first diesel ive owned so im only comparing feel of power to gas burners ive had, never had anything with the torque this one has so i may be mislead by the feel of it, any thoughts?

Thanks

Might want to take a pic of where you tapped that boost into.

The pod looks great, nice install.

well thats where it gets embarrasing, in my infinate wisdom i tapped the front of the intake elbow instead of the back. would that cause a problem?

it should not cause a problem. Boost should read in the 20's. kink or leak in the hose maybe.

You should see your boost get up into the 20's (max normal boost is 25-26 psi) if you do a "wild open blast" down the highway. Light cruising will not produce much if any boost. Boost is created by pressure in the exhaust forcing the turbine wheel in the turbocharger to spin. If your not working the truck, it's not going to produce boost; you need pressure not volume of exhaust to produce boost on the intake side. If your showing boost at idle, something is wrong...there should be none. I tapped my OEM aluminum elbow (back/oil filter side) so your fine tapping it. As long as the hose/wiring isn't interfering with the radiator fan, you should be fine regardless which side of the elbow you tapped.

Or put a load on it...drag a loaded trailer. When I pull my 5th wheel the truck is a different animal.

You should see more boost & EGT than that...even if it's for short periods on time if your running light.
