....Well not changed yet. I bought the plugs and boots (motorcraft) from Partsguyed and the lisle tool in the summer to do my plugs. But between fear of doing them and lack of time, I just never got around to it. Well weather was nice today and I had some free time so I figured I would tackle it. Got the tools out, watched some videos, reread all my research and tried to break the first plug loose to spray some stuff to break up the carbon...took A LOT of force to break it loose. Along with that force was A LOT of squeaking and fear.
So I broke down and called the dealer, one I kind of trust (I don't take my cars to the dealer for anything!) and I was quoted $256 for the labor for the plug change (they would use my parts) and the guy said to bring it over. So I dropped it off at noon and should get it back tomorrow morning.
I bought the truck used and have a hunch they might have been changed once already because the plugs in there were 9/16" inch and if I remember correctly I read the originals were 5/8" (I dont know if theres truth behind that), but I'm about to hit 100,000 and would just feel safer knowing they've been done.
So I'll probably have a lisle plug extraction tool for sale if anyone needs one.
You have to do what makes you feel comfortable. Next time use the air compressor and blow the plug wells out really good, then spray some JB blaster or something similar in the plug wells and let it soak for a good while. You'll hear a little squeal when removing the plugs, just take your time.
