i noticed on both my 78 and 79 that when u press the brake pedal that the firewall and power booster flex a good amount. does any else have this problem, and do any companiesw sell a brace , or should i just make one. thanks scott.
i was outside the truck with someone else pressing the pedal. the section flexing was right behind the booster, making the master/booster arc 1/2 to1 inch upward . i have a 79 f150 4x4 automatic trans, and a 78 bronco 4x4 auto. i noticed it on the bronco im rebuilding and then checked the f150 and they both do it. both are very solid with no rust around that area at all. i know some gm trucks have a brace rod in that area so im going to make one , this cant be right for it to flex like that. any ideas why its doing that?
But even if it is flexing, it probably won't affect anything because the pedals and the master cylinder is flexing at the same rate and therefore should not affect braking ability. There should be some loops in the hard brake lines which will expand and contract with the flexing as well.
Just a thought... Are you pushing a lot harder than you would normally when driving the truck? With vacuum assist the pressure to stop the vehicle is generated internally and the pedal more or less just applies the valve in the booster. You could add the brace but I don't think it's needed. IMHO
