recovering my interrior

im wanting to recover the interrior of my truck in a camo design. im just wanting to do the headliner and the door panels where the carpet is and where the leather/vinyl is up next to where you put your arm. has anyone on here done it? how did you get the carpet off the bottom? and did you remove the vinyl from the arm rest part or just wrap the material over top of it?

anyone have any pictures of how they did theirs?

heres a link to the panel that gave me the idea. im wanting to rewrap mine in the exact same spots.

I will comment on the carpet removal, its easy. Yanking the seat is the toughest part, and I never found it tough at all.

I was simply throwin' that out there...

IIRC, when you pull the panel, the carpeted section is held in with tabs....Push them over and it should flip right off....

I went and checked it out wes.

Ill have to see when i pull mine off to fix my window. My dads ranger isnt like that a bit. The carpet is glued on there and its dang near impossible to get off.

What about the upper vinyl part?

Should i use a foam backing for the door panels? Or just use the camo material?

I wouldn't do the foam...It'll cause issue with fitment.....

Alright well i pulled my panel off to take a look and im going to run into the same problem i ran into with the ranger. The pieces of the panel have these peg like things that stick through and are melted on the other side. Im going to post a pic in a minute of what im talking about.

Also the **** rug is glued on as well.

Unless i'm badly mistaken, those copper looking tabs are the ticket...

Gently, and I repeat GENTLY pull them up, just enough to allow the panel to slide out...

Ill try those tomorrow but i THINk thats for the little black trim piece. But ill try it tomorrow and see.

I was having trouble getting the carpet off the rangers panel but tonight i found a good way to get it off and tried covering the bottom with some denim. It worked out rather well so tomorrow im going to get some more fabric and cover the whole bottom (I only tried a small piece). I read somewhere to try filling in the small gap with some caulking so ill pick some of that as well.

i pulled the panel back off of my f150 to see what was up with the metal tabs. i was right, its for the black trim piece. the part that i want off with the vinyl coverign is held in there by the melted black rivet looking things. i had the same problem with the ranger. i ended up drilling the ones on the ranger out. it worked okay but i havent tried attaching them back on yet.

what would you all try to use to reattach it? a good strong rubber cement type deal? ill stop at wally world tonight after i get off work and pick some up and try it tonight. i may try that or maybe even a plastic welder from home depot?

the bottom part was rather easy. getting the old carpet off is the hard part. i have the lower panel of my dads old ranger covered in blue jean denim. ill post some pics later. it looks like crap right now because the rest of the panel is painted yellow (dont ask what i was thinking) i used a pair of old blue jeans and just a standard 3m spray adhesive (i think it was 44 or something?) but its holding surprisingly well. i still need to go around the corner edges with some caulking but for right now it seems to be holding well. i will recommend the use of a much higher strength adhesive though. also if your using like a t shirt material you may want to use a backing where its so thin so the adhesive doesnt run through. i used blue jeans so i didnt have that problem .

once i get the ranger figured out and make sure itll work ill do my f150 and do a nice writeup on the whole thing.

but ANY ideas on how to reattach the said panel? a good strong rubber cement?

I think I would try fast setting epoxy. Rubber cement may take a long time to cure..

YMMV
